THE TRIP

An experience to remember

Spain is a country of great historical value where still today, some of the most impressive ancient constructions of the medieval era are preserved, remaining as thousands of years ago, places where it seems that time has stopped. We will visit the northeast area of the peninsula from Teruel to France, where we will find small walled villages with modest homes, palatial houses, majestic castles, fortifications and towers. A trip to another time where you can enjoy the most authentic.

STEP BY STEP

Itinerary

Day 1 – Teruel

Departure from Madrid by rental car with a first stop at the beautiful villa of Albarracín, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. You will continue to Teruel, a beautiful city of Aragon with great architectural richness that combines Mudejar and Gothic art. The Mausoleum of the Lovers of Teruel or the Plaza del Torico will be other attractions that you will discover. Overnight in Mora de Rubielos.

Day 2 – Rubielos de Mora

Free day to continue touring the medieval villages of the area among which we highlight Rubielos de Mora and Puertomingalvo that correspond to the region of Júdar-Javalambre. Overnight in Mora de Rubielos.

Day 3 – Calaceite

After breakfast we will follow our medieval village itinerary to the north of the province. Our first stop will be Cantavieja, with its Templar Castle crowning the villa. The Villa de Morella, which you will find on your way is one of the most beautiful in Castellón, its centuries-old walls and its Castle will occupy a good part of the afternoon. Then you will continue to Calaceite where your next accommodation is.

Day 4 – Calaceite

Breakfast at the hotel and time to get to know the nearby villages among which we highlight Valderrobres, which has at least 6 hermitages of medieval origin, the Cave of Mas de Juanos and remains of old factories. Return to Calaceite, to stroll through its historic centre, the main square, the manor houses, churches and squares. Overnight in Calaceite.

Day 5 – Alquézar

Breakfast and departure to Huesca with a first stop in Caspe, where the Oath of the Compromisers was held in 1412. The villa is well worth a walk along its staircase and collegiate Santa Maria. The tour will continue to the walled town of Sos del Rey Católico, already in the region of the Five Villas, with its Sibirina Castle. Accommodation in Alquézar.

Day 6 – Alquézar

The equator of the trip arrives in Alquézar, whose collegiate was declared a National Monument in 1931. In addition to the medieval architecture that reigns throughout the trip, we recommend you to visit one of the wineries in the area with D.O. Somontano. Ainsa and Longas are two must-sees before concluding this stage through the medieval villages of Aragon. Accommodation in Alquézar.

Day 7- Besalú

We now head towards the Mediterranean and its medieval villages that will bring us closer to Catalan culture. First stop in Castellfollit de la Roca, small but spectacular, raised on a 50m cliff. The walls of Besalú will directly transport us to another era and make us feel knights entering its impetuous Castle. Overnight in Besalú.

Day 8 – Besalú

Breakfast at the hotel and last day to continue discovering the medieval legacy of Catalonia. Cruilles, Monells and Sant Sadurni, are 3 twin towns with a great medieval wealth. Our proposal is to continue towards the Costa Brava stopping at Peratallada (probably the most beautiful village of medieval origin in Catalonia), Tossa de Mar to know its imposing castle or the town of Pals.

Day 9 – Carcassonne

Breakfast at the hotel and departure to the South of France. One last stop in Beget, in the middle of nature of the Garrotxa region with its cobbled streets and full of history. Already in France, our first stop will be in Castelnou, which stands out for its beauty and its impressive fortified enclosure. Our route will continue to Carcassonne, a city declared a World Heritage Site and where the walls of its citadel hide truly magical corners. Overnight in Carcassonne.

Day 10 – Carcassonne

Free day in Carcassonne to get lost in the markets and enjoy the pure air that this unique enclave offers us. Overnight in Carcassonne.

Day 11 – Souillac

Early departure to the north with stops in Lautrec, as a start to the most beautiful villages in France. Continue to Castelnau-de-Montmiral where you can enjoy French cuisine and Puycelsi, an authentic hanged and fortified village. Before continuing to Souillac we will stop at Bruniquel, located very close and dominated by its two castles. Overnight in Souillac.

Day 12 – Souillac

After breakfast we will continue visiting nearby wonders such as Rocamadour, village hung in the National Park, Autoire with a medieval heritage worthy of being among the most beautiful villas in France. Overnight in Souillac.

Day 13

Before leaving France, it will be worth visiting Beynac-et-Cazenac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, also considered among the most beautiful villas in France. End of services and return home.
