What are Greenways
From train to bike: the railway heritage turned into a route
The Greenways are old railway lines in disuse recovered as itineraries for hikers and cyclists. The program, coordinated by the Foundation of Spanish Railways Since 1993, it has brought life back to tunnels, viaducts and stations that today form a network of more than 3,600 km throughout the country.
Following the old layout of the train, they are routes of gentle slopes that cross landscapes, towns and natural spaces, with the railway heritage, culture and nature as protagonists.

The project
Experience Spain's Greenways
A project coordinated by the Foundation of Spanish Railways that unites public and private actors to turn the Greenways into a country tourism experience: greener, more digital and more inclusive.
It is articulated in 10 lines of action, from the creation of collaborative networks and the integration of railway heritage to the improvement of the quality of experiences and their promotion in national and international markets. Among its novelties are the Grand Tour of the Greenways and the Natural Paths passport, in physical and digital format.
