The experience

Between mountain landscapes, rivers that draw the valley and villages with centuries of history, the Via Verde del Ferro i el Carbó Natural Road connects Ripoll and Sant Joan de les Abadesses following the old railway route that transported iron and coal. Today, this itinerary is a unique natural and cultural space, adapted so that anyone, with or without accessibility needs, can enjoy it at their own pace.

Pedal, walk or just let yourself go… here the experience suits you: you can travel all the way or just do a stretch, with options for families, groups of friends or travellers looking for an active and quiet getaway.

A ENVIRONMENT FULL OF HISTORY AND NATURE

  • Ripoll: Cradle of Catalonia, with its majestic Monastery of Santa Maria, jewel of the Catalan Romanesque, and its old town full of life.
  • Sant Joan de les Abadesses: A medieval village with an iconic Romanesque bridge, cobbled streets and the monastery that keeps legends and history.
  • Ogassa: Nestled in the middle of the mountain, it preserves its mining past and offers spectacular views of the Pyrenees.

Along the way you will find alpine meadows, oak and holm oak forests, riverside areas by the River Ter where the sound of water accompanies the route, and a rich biodiversity with birds of prey, squirrels and butterflies that colour the landscape.
