The Ecopistas in Portugal are old railway tracks rehabilitated for leisure and enjoyment in nature. Join us in this unique journey in which you will discover the best and most authentic of the north of Portugal touring the Ecopista de Guimarães. An itinerary that will begin through an immersion in the stories, traditions and gastronomy of Porto, without forgetting its great wines and wineries. The world of fado will be another of the proposals of this trip. In Guimarães, “the cradle of the nation”, we will discover the corners of its old town and understand why it has been declared a UNESCO cultural heritage. A cycling or walking tour that will take you through the history, heritage and some of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal.

Day 1 - Porto

Upon arrival in Porto, we will have free time before lunch in a lovely restaurant overlooking the Duero. At the end of the meal, our host and local historian will pick us up to accompany us on a tour through the stories and legends of the city. We will know its beautiful streets and medieval churches. We will enjoy the sunset walking through the port area to enjoy the beauty of the typical boats with which it carried in wine from the remote and winding mountains of the Duero.

Day 2 - Guimarães

Today we will go to the historic city of Guimarães, known as “the cradle of the nation”, since it was here that the conquest of Portuguese territory began. Accompanied by our local host, we will tour the walled old town of the city, declared a cultural heritage by UNESCO. To eat, we will enjoy a tasting in one of its typical taverns set with live fado. In the afternoon, we will discover together the most important works of the Romanesque with Gregorian singing choirs, and we will visit the impressive Guimarães Castle, from where heroic battles were witnessed.

Day 3 - Guimarães Ecopista (14 km)

Leaving the city, we find a unique space, where nature and tranquility prevail, it is the Ecopista de Guimarães. We will visit it during the morning, and our goal will be to reach the nearby city of Fafe. It will be 14 km quiet by perfectly paved and conditioned terrain so that we can enjoy our route without inconvenience. We will pass through the small villages of Aldão, Penha, Pasco Viera, Fareja, Cepaes and finally we will arrive at Fafe. We will have time to rest and enjoy the surroundings before dinner.

Day 4 - Porto

After breakfast, we will return to Porto. Along the way, we will stop to visit a traditional wine village with a Monastery and a fifth of wine, where the winemaker will tell us about the history of this internationally recognized wine and also its activities and daily tasks. Upon arrival in Porto, we will have some time before dinner, and being our last night, we have prepared a sensory experience enjoying a traditional fado show.

Day 5 - Porto

Depending on our departure time, we can enjoy our air of Porto. If we wish, we can extend our itinerary to other destinations of interest such as Braga or Viseu.
