The mining railway of the Sierra de la Demanda was built in the last years of the 19th century and only became operational in 1904. Its railway life may have been short, but its paths are still travelled today into a territory of great natural wealth.
The Vía Verde de la Sierra de la Demanda runs through the heart of this area full of mountain landscapes and charming villages. Our route will start from the town of Arlanzón, a stone’s throw from the Atapuerca Archaeological Site, which has been declared a UNESCO cultural heritage site.
We will experience great moments at the Sima del Elefante, Galería and Gran Dolina sites; we will enjoy nature in a 4×4 vehicle and the best Burgos gastronomy such as “Olla Podrida” made with red beans, ribs, burgos black pudding and other local products.

Day 1 - Arlanzón
Arrival at the accommodation in Arlanzón and free time to enjoy the good gastronomy.

Day 2 - Monterrubio de la Demanda
We will take you to Monterrubio de la Demanda to start the first stage to Pineda de la Sierra, a small village with charm situated in the heart of the Sierra de la Demanda.

Day 3 - Arlanzón
We continue the journey to Arlanzón. After a brief rest, you will move on to the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods by visiting the Sierra de Atapuerca Archaeological Site.

Day 4 - Juarros
Our host Rafael will take you on a tour of the Juarros region, passing through small villages, hills and viewpoints with the best views of Burgos and the Vía Verde.
