The non-motorized Green Railway tourist route allows local people to create and develop a particularly interesting, historical and culturally rich tourist offer that can be used throughout the year.
The Rīga – Ērgļi railway line was established in 1937 and operated until 2007.
The old railway line connects two UNESCO sites in Latvia: the historic center of Riga and the geodesic arch of Struve. Riga: the green road of Ergli has about 100 km of cycling that crosses the forests of Vidzeme and the landscape areas suitable for the activity. Several infrastructure objects, such as railway bridges and station buildings, have been preserved on this Greenway.
