  • A night in the desert, sleeping in authentic haimas (Berber tents) under a cloack of stars.

DAY 1 - Arrival in Fez.

Transfer from the airport to the riad in the Medina of Fez. Introductions and beginning of the yoga classes. Free-time to visit the Medina. Dinner at the hotel. Dinner, acommodation and breakfast in the riad.

DAY 2 - Fez, Midelt, Ziz Valley, Erfoud, Merzouga

We’ll wake up early in the morning and after breakfast, we’ll head towards Ifrane, also known as the Moroccan Switzerland. Then, we’ll go through the Azrou cedar forest and the Middle Atlas Mountains scenery, a must-see stop for watching monkeys in their wildlife habitat. When we get closer to Midelt, we’ll make a stop to enjoy a Yoga class and after that we’ll have lunch at a well-known restaurant (meal not included in the price). Later, we’ll keep our journey through the Ziz Valley and along the route, we’ll cross some fortified villages whose architecture will let us know that we are facing the Saharan oasis. Thus, we’ll arrive at Erfoud, a village where we’ll visit a collection of fossils in the nearby quarries. It is estimated that some of these fossils are more than 380 million years old. Also, there, we’ll buy essentials such as water. Next, we’ll lead into the desert until we get to the breathtaking Dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. We’ll continue for a few kilometres further on to shy away from the bustle and get to our kasbah, located in the heart of a stone desert (hamada) and still really close to other sand dunes. Dinner and accommodation.

DAY 3 - Desert, a visit to its oasis and Berber's villages

In the morning, a guide will take us to see the sunrise from the top of the dunes. Then we’ll have breakfast and a yoga class in the kasbah. Before noon, we’ll take a minibus ride around the Erg Chebbi Dunes, through the Paris-Dakar old trails. We’ll eat while on our way (meal not included) to see wild oasis in the middle of nowhere, spectacular landscapes, fossils, little villages and palm groves. We’ll share a cup of tea with a nomadic family. Bread workshop (optional).

One of the musts in our visit to this region is Khamelia, a town of great historical and cultural importance, home of sub-saharan African descendants. They’ll share with us their traditional music and dances: we’ll enjoy another delicious tea while we are delighted by a gnawa music concert.

To conclude the circuit around the dunes, we’ll visit a village named Hassilabied to go for a pleasant walk under the shade of the palm groves and through the garden that supplies the local people. A perfect example of the canalization and irrigation ditches part of the Khetarra system. Later, we’ll return to our kasbah. A night-time, guided activity. Breakfast, dinner and accommodation.

DAY 4 - A visit to Ksar Jrana, close to Erfoud

We’ll wake up early, have a yoga class and after breakfast we’ll go to the north of Erfoud, crossing the Tizimi oasis and taking a detour towards Ksar Jrana, a well-preserved, fortified city still inhabited by locals. Its paved, narrow streets give the place a mysterious, contagious serenity aura. We’ll have a yoga class in that very special surrounding environment. After a stop on the market (meal not included), we’ll have a picnic next to the palm groves. At Erfoud, we could attend an Amaszigh (Berber) calligraphy workshop (optional). Later, we’ll go back to our kasbah. We’ll enjoy some spare time until dinner. Breakfast, dinner and accommodation.

DAY 5 - Desert – Rissani - Camping

Early in the morning, we’ll enjoy a guided tour and then we’ll have breakfast. We’ll go to Rissani, in Tafilalet, where we’ll go for a stroll in a popular market and see a famous donkey-parking. We’ll have some spare time in this unique place where all the nomadic tribes go to buy and sell all their goods. A strange, unforgettable experience. Afterwards, we’ll savour a Berber pizza (meal not included) before we return to our kasbah. We’ll indulge in some leisure time until the scheduled time for a trip on the back of a dromedary to the Haimas camp. That night will be exceptional: we’ll sleep in nomadic tents, as Berbers do. We’ll be welcomed to the camp with some tea and a traditional Berber meal and entertained with the beat of drums and dancing, all under a cloak of stars you’ll never forget. A dancing workshop (optional). Observation of the night sky in order to contemplate the main stars and constellations. Breakfast, dromedaries, dinner and haimas accommodation

DAY 6 - Desert - Fez

Early in the morning, we’ll take part in a guided tour and then we’ll have a Berber breakfast in the camp or at the hotel. We’ll have some time to shower and pick up our luggage at the kasbah before leaving for Fez. We’ll go through Erfoud, crossing the amazing Ziz Valley. What was originally a river that barely eroded the mountain rocks, today is a huge palm grove that is more than 20 kilometres in length and has over 18.000 palms. It would be the right time to make a stop to have lunch (meal not included) and taste dates or to buy some to take home. We’ll continue our road trip towards the cedar forest passing by Ifrane, also known as the Moroccan Switzerland. Finally, we’ll get to Fez, Morocco’s cultural heart. We’ll enjoy some free time to visit the medina and do some last-minute shopping or to go to a hammam in a luxurious, ancient palace and have dinner in the Medina (meal not included). Breakfast in the desert and accommodation.

DAY 7 - Fez

Early in the morning, we’ll enjoy a guided tour and then we’ll have breakfast. Amami cooking workshop along with lunch in a lavish palace in the medina of Fez (2 hours, around 47€, optional) or a bath in the hammam of the palace for those who didn’t take it the day before (from 39€, optional). In the evening, we’ll go on a city tour by minibus and a guided, walking tour* in the Medina of Fez. At night, certificates of attendance will be delivered at the hotel and we’ll have a farewell party (dinner not included). Breakfast and accommodation.

*In this guided tour in the Medina of Fez, we’ll stroll along the most important Fez el-Bali alleys. The old Medina dates from the VIII century and includes over than 300 neighbourhoods and 9.000 alleys, creating a network of streets in which only local people can find the right way. Some of the places we’ll be travelling along together during our visit are the Andalusian District, Chouara Tannery, Al-Karaouine Mosque, the Bab Bou Jeloud gate, the mausoleum of Mulay Idris, Place Seffarine, Al-Attarine Madrasa and the various souks of Fez: Talaa Kebira and Talaa Seguira.
